What a fun couple G & S are! They introduced us to a gorgeous ceremony venue in Redwood City, called the Pulgas Water Temple. Their reception was held at the Sofitel Hotel in Redwood City in the gorgeous Veranda Room. G & S had a brilliant morning ceremony followed by a delicious luncheon. They even incorporated the Paebaek (Korean Wedding Ceremony) that was beautifully colorful and fun! Congrats G & S! Here are some non-pro teasers for now...More to come in soon!

Brilliant DIY: Delicious Scones!

In preparation for an upcoming tea party, I was researching recipes for scones. I came across this one by Alton Brown (Food Network). It looked simple enough - and it was! It tastes amazing as well - light, flaky & fluffy, buttery and perfectly sweet. The kitchen is definitely not my favorite place and the oven is not an appliance I use all the time but this recipe made me feel like I knew what I was doing! I did cut out the scones with nonconventional scone shapes, but that just makes them more fun to eat, right?!

You gotta check this out!

Ingredients
2 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sugar
4 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons shortening
3/4 cup cream
1 egg
Handful dried currants or dried cranberries

Directions

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Mix well. Cut in butter and shortening. In a separate bowl, combine cream with beaten egg then add to dry ingredients. Stir in fruit. Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Roll dough out and cut into biscuit size rounds. Bake for 15 minutes or until brown

Bon apetite!

The Beginning of BB Events - Helen & A's Wedding

Helen and her husband's day was set in Hawaii. She had a brilliantly elegant catholic ceremony in church followed by a beautiful reception at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki. Her florals and wedding cake were amazing! There were hula dancers to kick off the night as well. She DIY'd her invitations, programs, candle centerpieces, guest favors and the bridesmaids' jewelry - her wedding details complimented the day perfectly!

K & J's Wedding - by BB Events (TEASER!)

We had the honor of helping our dear friends K&J coordinate their special day. Their beautiful day was full of surprise details for their guests - from storm troopers, to lion dancers and taiko drummers! The blushing bride looked stunning not only in her wedding gown, but also her tradional chinese chipao. In addition, to honor her husband's Japanese hertitage, she rocked the glamorous kimono (that she snatched off of Ebay for a great deal!). Their beautiful ceremony was highlighted by their personalized vows to each other and a lovely Hawaiian lei ceremony - all against a gorgeous back drop of in the Oakland Hills at the Skyline Community Church. The ceremony was followed by a private chinese tea ceremony for the family, followed by an exciting reception filled with fun for everyone! What a brilliant way to kick off the next chapter of their lives together! Congrats K&J! More photos to follow in the very near future!

Personalize & Save $$$ with DIY projects!

As I started planning my wedding, I realized there are many ways to spend the wedding budget. After prioritizing where we wanted to spend our money (catering & photography), we started looking at where we could cut costs. There are many areas to cut costs without cutting into your overall style and theme of the wedding.

Here are some that I thought worked well for us.

1. DIY paper projects - color coordinate, plan a little in advance what you need and buy cardstock, paper and envelopes in bulk to save a few extra bucks!: Save-the-Dates, Invitations, Table names/numbers, Menu cards, Framed Program (in lieu of individual programs), Seating chart, Thank you cards.

2. DIY centerpieces

3. DIY ring pillow
(Made from the left over scraps of my wedding dress that had to be hemmed & a silk flower that came with the wrapping of an early wedding gift from a friend! So, look around and see what you have to use.)

4. DIY card box

5. DIY Cupcake stand

Tips on DIY-ing:

-Keep it simple: This way the final product will look semi-professionally done.
-Use what you have & Be creative: Visit the craft store, look around to see what you have left over (ie: My ring pillow was make from scraps of my wedding dress returned to me by my seamstress after cut the hem and flowers from my bridal shower gifts).
-Be patient & know that it may take a couple of tries: We took our cake stand apart and reinforced with with dowels inside to make it a sturdier stand.
